Perch + Paper Goes Mobile: My New Pop-Up Shop!
This week, I took on a little DIY adventure and transformed a used TV hutch into something completely new—my Perch + Paper Mobile Pop-Up Shop!
DIY Pop-Up Shop Transformation: From Hutch to Rolling Shop
It all started with a secondhand hutch and a garden wagon (because hauling furniture down the street on foot didn’t seem like a great idea). A few coats of paint, a very sore wrist, and maybe a little questioning of my life choices later—I had a charming little shop-on-wheels! The flatbed wagon got a fresh coat of white spray paint, and the hutch went white on the outside and a barely-there pink—Glidden’s Summer Lily—on the inside.
My sons swore they couldn't tell the difference right away, but once it sat in the shadows, they finally understood what I meant when I said, "It’s like when a sunset glows onto a white room." (See? Mom knows things.)
Since the Oregon coast weather is doing its usual thing (rain, rain, and oh look—more rain), I had exactly one day to finish the painting. Thank you, sunshine! Three coats later (and an ongoing debate with my wrist about whether I’m being kind to it), the transformation was complete!
Painting a secondhand TV hutch white and soft pink to transform it into a mobile pop-up shop for Perch + Paper.
Functional & Stylish Interior
Now, what’s a pop-up shop without some organization? I added a pegboard to the back and mounted a couple of picture ledges to show off prints. Then I found some wire baskets—painted eggshell blue and gold—to hold postcards and bookmarks. Even the handles and knobs got a little glow-up with Rust-Oleum’s Gold Metallic spray paint.
I even painted the inside drawers (because once you start, you just keep painting). They’ll be filled with brown paper gift bags, extra journals, and prints— you never know when a pop-up might turn into a "why yes, I do need a new notebook today" moment.
Perch + Paper Pop-Up in Manzanita: March 29th at Cloud & Leaf Bookstore
This Saturday, March 29th, I’ll be rolling my little shop down the street (literally!) for my first-ever pop-up at Cloud & Leaf Bookstore in Manzanita, OR. Since I only live a block away, I’ll be wheeling a hutch through town like it’s totally normal. The town is poppin’, so I’m sure my shop will be the right place to be—right outside Cloud & Leaf Bookstore and just across the way from Unfurl (a Manzanita tourist favorite)!
It’s supposed to be classic Oregon spring weather (aka chilly and wet), but I’ll be cozy under the covered porch with a thermos of hot tea, possibly a blanket, and high hopes that people come say hi. If you’re driving down the coast, come browse my latest journals, prints, and paper goods, and check out my little rolling experiment in action.
And don’t worry—I'll be sharing a follow-up blog with photos and a video of the final setup (because what’s a project without a before-and-after moment?).
