But let’s be real—if you’ve ever tried to make a repeating pattern without a plan, you’ve probably ended up with weird gaps, awkward overlaps, or edges that just don’t match up. No worries! Today, I’m giving you a foolproof method for making seamless patterns in Procreate (without the frustration).

Alright, let’s get patterning!
Step 1: Set Up Your Canvas for a Seamless Pattern
If you start with the right canvas settings, the whole process becomes way smoother.
Open Procreate & Create a New Canvas → Use 3000x3000px at 300 DPI (a sweet spot for print & digital).
Turn on Drawing Guide → Under Actions > Canvas > Turn on “Drawing Guide.”
Use Perch Spot-Pattern Guides (Optional, But Life-Saving!) → These help you arrange your motifs properlywithout wonky repeats.
Pro Tip: Keeping your background separate from your pattern elements will make recoloring SO much easier later.
Step 2: Design Your Pattern Elements
Now comes the fun part—drawing your motifs!
Think of this as your creative free-for-all. Just keep in mind that balance is key—you don’t want one side of your design looking way too crowded.
Some Pattern Ideas to Try:
Nature-Inspired: Flowers, leaves, mushrooms, stars
Cozy Fall Vibes: Sweaters, pumpkins, coffee mugs
Playful Geometrics: Circles, stripes, squiggles

Step 3: The Secret to a Perfect Seamless Repeat (Offsetting Trick!)
Here’s where the real magic happens!
Duplicate, then merge all of your pattern elements onto ONE layer (but leave the background out of it).
Go to Actions > Canvas > Crop & Resize → Tap Resample (keeps everything crisp).
Select the Move Tool (Arrow Icon) → Turn ON “Snapping”
Offset Your Design: Move the entire layer halfway left, right, up, and down.
Fill the Empty Spaces → This is where you add in more motifs so your pattern stays seamless!
Congratulations! You now have a perfect seamless pattern!
Step 4: Export & Use Your Pattern Everywhere
Once your design is seamless, the possibilities are endless!
Use it for Spoonflower & Redbubble (sell it on fabric, wallpaper, and home goods!)
