When I first embarked on my creative journey, I never imagined I would become an artist. It wasn't a path I saw for myself until I decided to let go of my inhibitions and take that leap of faith into the world of art. The Fear That Held Me Back
As an Oregon-based artist and online teacher, I've got a lot on my plate. My business, Perch Handmade, allows me to connect with people from all corners of the globe. I'm here to both teach and learn alongside them.
It also lets me create meaningful t-shirts and eco-friendly housewares that resonate with cancer patients… and fans of Brandi Carlile {die-hard fan right here}. These creations serve a dual purpose - they express support and raise funds for METAvivor.org and the lookingoutfoundation.org, respectively.
But here's the twist - my journey into the art world didn't start with swagger and bravado. Nope, it began with me doubting my own artistic mojo. Sound familiar? Yep, just like many of us, I had serious reservations about my creative skills. The crazy part? I told myself my entire life, I wasn’t artistic until I kicked that fear to the curb at 40!
Letting Go and Taking the Plunge
Alright, here's where the plot thickens. One day, I decided to give it a shot. I started with baby steps, toying around with watercolors and Procreate. These tools became my playground, and slowly, I started seeing the world in a whole new light. My classes, from newbie tutorials to mind-blowing pattern designs, all came from my own curiosity and a willingness to dive in headfirst.
From Inhibitions to Insane Inspiration
Guess what? I discovered that creativity isn't some exclusive club; it's a wild river flowing within each of us, just waiting to be unleashed. So, I made it my mission to help others let go of their creativity fears and show them the ropes through online classes. I wanted to shout from the rooftops that beginners and intermediates could break free from those chains of doubt, just like I did!

Now, let's rewind the clock a bit. It all began with a humble watercolor set and some hand lettering. Those early days were filled with joy as I experimented with brush strokes and letterforms. But it wasn't until a game-changer entered my life: the iPad and Procreate.
