Kauai: A Dreamy Destination for Beach-Loving Chill Seekers
Aloha, folks! I’ve got to tell you about the most amazing trip to Kauai that my partner and I just had. It was our first vacay without our kiddos, and it was nothing short of miraculous. We couldn't have picked a better place to reconnect and recharge.
The beaches in Poipu are seriously the best. We swam our butts off at Kiahuna Beach, where the water was crystal-clear and the waves were just right. And the best part? We didn't have to fight for a spot on the sand. We just were able to chill.
We also hit up Waimea Canyon, which was absolutely breathtaking. A rooster tried to come home with us even! We tried to make it all the way to Pu’u O Kila Lookout in our electric car, but we ended up turning around and heading to Kekaha Beach instead. And let me tell you, we also stumbled upon this super surreal spot called Glass Beach. It was like nothing we'd ever seen before. Glass and coral filled the beach.
But that's not all – we saw stunning rainbows during our stay. The colors were so vibrant and bright, it was almost like looking at a painting. And get this – we even spotted whales and turtles from the shore while we were swimming at Kekaha and Kiahuna beach. I'm not even kidding, it was like they were showing off for us. Lucky me… I get to keep that in my memories! We added our names to a tree in Spouting Horn Park, where hundreds of names and well-wishes have been written on the leaves.
And the food, oh my goodness! We hit up fruit stands for days and devoured all kinds of delicious tropical fruits. We also had an amazing organic, local feast at a food truck in Hanalei, called Fresh Bite. Friends… this was by far the best food we’ve found in so long! My man and I love a good fry, and by golly they did not disappoint. All their ingredients are organic and locally sourced. We went for the Chipotle Cheese Fries with the purple sweet potatoes, and we upgraded them to the Jurassic style with the local grass-fed steak. WHAT?!?
We also had a killer evening at the Grand Hyatt in Poipu. We sipped cocktails and watched a hula show with some sweet Hawaiian tunes. It was a perfect way to end a magical day.
I managed to squeeze in some reading and art, although not as much of the latter as I had hoped. It was quite the advantage having copious amounts of water surrounding me to create a tropical watercolor line-drawing. And I always had my Lisa Congdon tote, filled with our beach needs and art supplies (just in case). I couldn’t wait to get home and paint, draw, and create patterns inspired by all the plant-life I saw!

But the absolute best part of our trip? The sunsets and moonrises. Every evening we made sure to catch the sunset at Kiahuna beach, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. And to top it all off, we got to witness the sunrise and a full moon rising in front of our suite each day. It was like something out of a movie.
All in all, Kauai is the ultimate spot for a chill and beautiful vacation. We can't wait to go back and do it all over again. Mahalo for reading!
